Courtney Bean is a native of Peoria, Illinois, and played hockey for Team Illinois. She captained the team to state titles during her junior and senior seasons.

Bean enrolled at Lake Forest College in 2006 and played in all 107 of the Forester women’s hockey team’s games over the next four years. She graduated with 39 career assists, the third-highest total in program history at the time, and added 18 goals, including 11 power play scores and three game-winners. Bean ranked fourth in the nation in points by a defenseman with 23 as a junior and finished tied-for-13th in the country with 18 during her senior season. She was named First Team All-Northern Collegiate Hockey Association following each of those campaigns and, as a senior, became the first Forester at her position to earn First Team West All-American accolades. Bean served as a captain her final two years at the College and closed out her career by helping Lake Forest post a 19-3-4 record and capture the first conference title in team history. The Foresters were 54-37-16 overall and 30-23-14 in NCHA play during her career and, at the time of her induction, the 2009-10 team’s winning percentage was still the program’s best.

Bean also competed for the club rugby team throughout her four years at the College and graduated with a degree in business. She also graduated from Illinois Central College for Dental Hygiene three years later and began a career in that field.
