The Midwest Conference is hosting the 2026 MWC Individual Tournament in Madison, Wisconsin, this weekend and Lake Forest College players are still alive in seven of the nine positional brackets after Saturday's play.
A day after
winning the MWC Team Tournament in dramatic fashion, the Foresters had a few lineup changes, including the insertion of freshman
Tim Pasea at #1 singles and #3 doubles. After receiving a bye in the quarterfinals, Pasea defeated the top player from Cornell College 6-0, 6-4 to reach the final, which will be played on Sunday. He also teamed up with junior
Daniel Fotiev on an 8-0 victory in the quarterfinals at #3 doubles.
Three other Foresters were also victorious in the semifinals of singles play on Saturday. Senior
George Ciuca was seeded second at #3 and rolled 6-0, 6-2 in the quarterfinals before taking both sets 6-1 in the semis. Junior
Rodrigo Cunha followed the same path at #4, where he posted 6-0, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-3 victories. Freshman
Zeke Bisharat was the top seed at #6 and did not drop a game in his semifinal triumph.
Junior
Bernardo Aguiar prevailed 6-0, 6-0 in his first match at #2 singles before being forced to retire during the semifinals. Fotiev also won without losing a game in the quarterfinals at #5 but was eliminated in the next round.
Saturday's matches also included a round of play in doubles and, in addition to Pasea and Fotiev winning at #3, Cunha and sophomore
Felipe Moraes defeated their quarterfinal opponents 8-1 while Aguiar and Ciuca were doubling up their counterparts 8-4 at #2.
Sunday's first matches at the Nielsen Tennis Center will begin aat 9:00 a.m.
