Six members of the Lake Forest College men's tennis team were in action this weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Tournament in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
A pair of Forester doubles teams were in the field and both advanced to the second round.
Felipe Moraes and
Rodrigo Cunha rolled 8-2 in the their first match before falling 8-5 to a top-16 seed in the round of 32.
Dikshan Chhikara and
Tim Pasea followed a similar path, edging out their first opponents 8-6 but dropping an 8-4 decision to the tournament's #5 seeds.
Cunha and
Joao Espindola turned in the Foresters' top performances in singles. After dropping his first match in Flight A, Cunha was undefeated in the consolation bracket. Among his victories was a 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, (10-6) triumph in the round of 16 and he was ahead 7-5, 2-1 in the final when his opponent was forced to retire due to injury. Espindola won Flight C, taking both the semifinal and final by the same 6-2, 6-4 score.
Zeke Bicharat also earned a victory in singles, coming out on top 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, (12-10) in the round of 32 before being eliminated by the #2 seed in the round of 16.
Moraes also played singles but was knocked off in a third set super tiebreaker in both of his Flight A matches.
The tournament was the final competition of the fall semester for the Foresters.
