Lake Forest College freshman
Emma Kinane had one winning streak end and another continue at the United States Handball Association National Collegiate Championships on Saturday.
Kinane had reached the Women's Open Singles semifinals by winning her first three matches at the event. She was denied a spot in the final, however, falling 21-4, 21-13 to the top seed in the tournament.
Sophomore
Audrey Peters and Kinane are the Foresters' top women's doubles tandem and they came from behind to prevail 4-21, 21-7, 11-4 in the Open semifinals on Saturday to earn Handball All-America status. They are the program's first women's doubles team to accomplish the feat in a decade and Kinane is the first Lake Forest woman to be named All-America in both singles and doubles in the same season since 2012.
Two Forester men also competed in Saturday's semifinal action. Junior
Dylan Schmitt edged out his opponent 21-18, 21-16 to reach the final in the Men's Open 9-16 Singles bracket while freshman
Ethan Trankolov was defeated 21-12, 21-16 in Men's C4 Singles.
Schmitt's final is slated for 9:00 Sunday morning and Kinane and Peters will play for the doubles title at 10:00 a.m.
