Box Score

The Lake Forest College men's tennis team is competing at the Midwest Conference Championships at the Nielsen Tennis Center this weekend (April 30-May 1). After placing second in the team tournament on Friday, the Foresters claimed a title and had three runner-up finishes in the six positional singles tournaments.

Lake Forest freshman John Adams (Colorado Springs, Colo./ Cheyenne Mountain) was the top seed in the #3 singles tourney and posted three victories to capture the title. He needed to come from behind in the semifinals after falling 7-5 in the first set. He took the second set 6-3 and the third 6-1 to reach the final, where he prevailed 6-2 in both sets. Adams closed out the season with 10 consecutive victories, matching the fifth-longest winning streak in team history. He was 25-3 on the year.

Junior Elliot Muth (New York, N.Y./Hill School) also dropped the first set (6-3) in the semifinals at #2 singles before taking the final two sets (6-3, 6-1) to advance to the final, where he fell 6-2, 6-0. He finished the season with a record of 16-6.

The Foresters also received a runner-up performance from senior Joe Campagna (Elmwood Park, Ill./Fenwick) at #4 and, like Adams and Muth, won in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 6-4) in the semifinals. He was defeated 6-0, 6-1 in the final. Campagna was 19-7 on the year and finished his career with a team record 61 singles victories against just 23 losses.

Junior Chris Paterakos (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) also reached the final at #5 singles. He won his first two matches by a combined score of 24-6 before falling 6-3, 6-1 in the final and finishing 2010 with a record of 19-6.

Junior Jon Flaksman (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) played at #1 singles and won his first round match 6-1, 6-1 but fell in the quarterfinals.

The Foresters will close out the season with tomorrow's MWC Doubles Tournaments.
