Box Score 2 The Forester men's tennis team was the runner-up at the Midwest
Conference Team Championship Tournament Friday (April 30) at the
Nielsen Tennis Center in Madison, Wisconsin. Lake Forest defeated
Lawrence University 5-1 in the semifinals but was unable to prevent
Grinnell College from claiming its seventh straight league title on
a 5-1 decision in the championship. The Foresters finished their
final dual matches of the year with a 20-6 record.
Lake Forest claimed two of the three doubles matches against
Lawrence. Senior Joe Campagna
(Elmwood Park, Ill./Fenwick) and junior Chris
Paterakos (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) won 8-3 for their eighth
consecutive victory at #2. Freshmen John Adams
(Colorado Springs, Colo./ Cheyenne Mountain) and Kevin Lasky
(Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) defeated their opponents 8-5 at #3.
Adams, Campagna, and Paterakos were also victorious in singles to
give the Foresters a match-clinching five team points. Adams' 6-2,
6-3 win at #3 and Campagna's 6-1, 6-2 triumph at #3 extended their
singles winning streaks to seven matches. Paterakos prevailed 7-5,
6-4 at #5 for his sixth straight victory.
As they did when the Foresters fell 8-1 to Grinnell on April 3,
Adams and Lasky were defeated by a narrow 9-7 margin at #3 doubles.
The Pioneers claimed each of the two doubles matches by more
convincing scores and added wins at #1 and #5 singles to capture
the 2010 conference title.
The 2010 MWC Championships will continue with tomorrow's six
positional singles tournaments and the three doubles tourneys on
Sunday.
