Lake Forest Defeats Monmouth and Carroll to Tie School Record for Victories

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Forester men's tennis team defeated Monmouth College and Carroll University 7-2 at home on Saturday (April 17). The victories gave Lake Forest a 17-5 overall record and a share of the program record for victories in a season. The triumph over Monmouth raised the Foresters' Midwest Conference South Division record to 3-1 and likely earned them a spot in the four-team MWC Team Championship Tournament on April 30. Monmouth (1-1 MWC South) fell to 4-10 overall after dropping a 5-4 decision to Carroll in between the Lake Forest victories. Carroll is now 9-5 on the year.

In doubles, senior Joe Campagna (Elmwood Park, Ill./Fenwick) and junior Chris Paterakos (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) defeated Monmouth's #2 team 8-0 and Carroll's 8-3. Freshmen John Adams (Colorado Springs, Colo./ Cheyenne Mountain) and Kevin Lasky (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) teamed up to blank Monmouth's #3 duo 8-0 and double up Carroll's 8-4. The four players also came out on top at the bottom four spots in the singles lineup against Monmouth. Adams won 6-0, 6-2 at #3, Campagna posted a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at #4, Paterakos did not lose a game at #5, and Lasky prevailed 6-2, 6-0 at #6. All four also won against Carroll, despite moving up a spot in the lineup due to injury. Adams took both sets 6-2 and #2 and Campagna blanked his opponent 6-0, 6-0 at #3. Paterakos triumphed 6-0, 6-3 at #4 and Lasky edged out his opponent 6-4 in both sets at #5.

Lake Forest's #1 singles player, junior Jon Flaksman (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North), also swept his singles matches, winning 6-3, 6-1 against Monmouth and 6-4, 6-1 versus Carroll.

The Foresters will try to surpass the program record for victories in a season tomorrow against visiting Elmhurst College (9:00 a.m.) and St. Norbert College (3:00 p.m.).
