The Lake Forest College women's golf team is making its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference debut this weekend and is in third place after the first of the event's three rounds.
Aurora University's score of 297 was the best in the 10-team field and Marian University is in second place at 314 and the Foresters turned in a season-best round of 319 on Saturday. St. Norbert College (324) and Milwaukee School of Engineering (326) are within seven shots of Lake Forest.
Sophie Smith was the Foresters' top player on Saturday with a career-best-tying 78 on the par-72 course at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club in West Chicago. She played her final six holes in 1-under and is tied-for-8th out of 57 players overall.
Amanda Adley and
Eva Kennedy were next on the team and tied-for-12th overall at 80 while
Libby Hearst carded an 81 in her first round of the season.
Sunday's round two will begin at 11:00 a.m.
