The Forester women's golf team was in the middle of its second round on Saturday when rain and lightning prematurely ended the Midwest Region Fall Classic at Brighton Dale Links. The team and individual standings revert back to the end of Friday's opening round, when Lake Forest was tied-for-ninth in the 39-team field.
Senior
Gabrielle Krebs was one of three players tied for second place on Friday with a 1-over 73. She matched the fourth-best score in team history and now owns nine of the program's top 13 rounds. Krebs recorded back-to-back birdies on the par-5 13th and par-3 14th holes in the first round and had two more birdies and two bogeys on Saturday. At 1-over for the tournament, she was atop the leaderboard when play was stopped.
Lake Forest sophomore
Libby Hearst was next on the team on Friday with an 81 and was followed by freshman
Sophie Smith at 83. Seniors
Ashlyn Bhatia and
Alijah Campbell were at 91 and classmate
Sydney Foulon competed as an individual and carded an 84.
The University of Northwestern-St. Paul posted a score of 303 on Friday, five strokes better than runner-up Aurora University. The Foresters' 328 tied them with St. Norbert College for ninth place, just one shot behind two other teams.
Lake Forest will compete in the Edgewood Fall Invite next Sunday and Monday. The tournament will be played at Odana Hills Golf Course in Madison, Wisconsin.
