Lake Forest Defends Marian Invitational Title in Record-Setting Fashion

9/7/2024 8:42:00 PM

The Forester women's golf team began Saturday 12 strokes off the lead in the Marian Invitational but finished the day and the tournament in first place by the same margin.

Lake Forest's round of 315 on Saturday was the best in the 11-year history of the program, edging out the previous mark by two strokes, and the Foresters' final score of 671 ranks fourth in team annals.

A 2-over 74 on Saturday by Forester junior Gabrielle Krebs was the event's best individual round and lifted her into a tie for second place overall at 162. It was also the only round of the tournament better than the 77 carded by fellow junior Ashlyn Bhatia on day two. Bhatia's first collegiate round in the 70s gave her a fourth-place finish out of 47 players with a final score of 164.

Alijah Campbell, another Lake Forest junior, turned in a score of 79 on Saturday and 170 for the tournament, which was good for an eighth-place tie. Freshman Libby Hearst was next on the team and tied-for-15 overall after back-to-back rounds of 88 while junior Sydney Foulon and freshman Amanda Adley were tied-for-21st at 179.

It was the third straight Marian Invitational title and seventh in the last nine years for the Foresters, who will continue their season at the WLC (Wisconsin Lutheran College) Invitational on Friday.
