The Forester women's golf team began its 2024-25 season by placing ninth in the 18-team field at Carthage College's Battle on the Border Friday and Saturday.
Junior
Niki Datangel was Lake Forest's top player at the event with a 36-hole score of 175. Her 84 on Saturday was seven strokes better than Friday's performance and lifted her into a tie for 37th place out of 109 players. Her second round featured six pars and she was more than a shot over par on just one hole.
Freshman
Savannah Matta was next on the team at 181 while junior
Chelsea Sinclair's rounds of 93 and 90 were the best of her collegiate career. Both players finished in the top half of the field and Matta's 89 on Friday was the Foresters' second-lowest round of the tournament.
SeniorsÂ
Lucy Rayburn and
Emma Ackland came in at 185 and 187, respectively.
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater won the event with a two-day total of 619, 17 shots better than runner-up Aurora University. Lake Forest's 722 edged out Carroll University for ninth place by just three strokes. The tournament was played at Bristol Oaks Country Clu in Bristol, Wisconsin.Â
A different set of Foresters will compete in Augustana College's Highland Championships on Sunday and Monday.
