The Lake Forest College men's golf team is in Metamora, Illinois, for the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships and is in fourth place in the standings after the first of three days of competition.
The Foresters' opening round score of 304 trails first-place Mississippi University for Women by a dozen strokes. Webster University is three shots off the lead and Spalding University five.
Sophomore
Ben Shamberg was Lake Forest's top player on Sunday with a 73 on the 6,675-yard par-71 course at Metamora Fields. He is tied for fifth out of 65 golfers and just three shots off the lead. Only one player in the field had more than his four birdies in round one.
Freshman
Tyler Schick is next on the team and tied-for-14th overall with a 76. Junior
Chris Petri is just a shot behind Schick and one ahead of senior
Tyler Nielsen. They are tied for 20th and 27th, respectively.
Monday's second round will begin at 10:00 a.m.
