Box Score Select members of the Forester men's tennis team made the trip to Kalamazoo, Michigan, this weekend for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Tournament.
Senior
Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk was the team's top performer, winning once in both singles and doubles play. After a bye through the opening round, he rolled 6-0, 6-1 to reach the round of 32. A 6-4, 6-4 loss ended his run through the singles bracket.
Vyshyvanyuk partnered with junior
Daniel Tulchinskiy in doubles and the tandem posted an 8-2 triumph in the round of 64 before being edged out 8-5 in their net match. They rank second in program history in career victories by a doubles team with 38.
Forester freshman
Bernardo Aguiar posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory in the first ITA Tournament match of his career. He also came close to earning another in the round of 64, falling 6-2, 4-6 (10-7).
Sophomore Geoge Ciuca dropped his opening round match but came out on top in a pair of third-set super-tiebreakers in the consolation bracket. After prevailing 7-5, 1-6, (10-4) in the round of 32, he added a 6-2, 2-6, (11-9) triumph in the round of 16.
The tournament was the final competition for the Foresters in the fall. They will resume their 2023-24 schedule on February 17 with matches against Coe College and host North Central College.
