Forester Offense Erupts in Victory at Brevard

Box Score

The Lake Forest College women's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 as a varsity sport with a 24-10 triumph at Brevard College in North Carolina on Sunday.

After an early goal by the home team, Forester freshman Jenna Doctor scored two goals just 42 seconds apart to give her team the lead for good. Additional tallies by Lake Forest sophomore Ryleigh Nelson and freshman Ashley Carr gave the visitors a 4-2 lead at the end of the opening period.

Lake Forest accounted for nine of the game's 14 goals in the second quarter, including three in the first 97 seconds of the period. Sophomore Ali Graham was responsible for three of them, Nelson added two more to her total, and junior Emma Tryder also scored twice in the period. Freshman Abby Meyer, one of two Foresters making their collegiate debuts just two days after playing in the women's hockey team's final game of the season, netted her first career goal.

Doctor assisted freshman Savannah Frauhiger on the final score of the first half and the first after halftime. Nelson added her fourth of the contest and freshman Krissy Kuwaha found the net twice as Lake Forest increased its lead to 14-7 early in the third quarter. Freshman Cass Barbera scored the first of her two goals in the game and Doctor her third to give the Foresters a 19-9 lead with a period to play.

Brevard had the first goal of the fourth quarter but Lake Forest the last five, including the second of the afternoon for Barbera and Carr, the third for Kuwahara, and the fourth for Graham and Doctor. It was the second straight four-goal performance for Doctor, who leads the team with a dozen points after two contests.

The Foresters reached double figures in attempts each period and outshot the Tornados 43-20 on the day.

Lake Forest freshman goalie Calliope Saban made five saves and improved to 2-0 in her collegiate career.

Brevard is now 2-2 this season.

The Foresters, who are on their spring break trip, will remain in North Carolina and play at Warren Wilson College Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 (ET).
