Foresters Close out Home Slate with Victory over Lawrence

Box Score

Three of senior Jo Hendriksen's corner kicks led to goals as the Lake Forest College women's soccer team defeated visiting Lawrence University 4-0 on Saturday.

Hendriksen's first assist came from the left corner and her pass was headed just over the goalkeeper's outstretched hands by a leaping Susie Baca at 21:17. It was the first goal of the season and fifth career game-winner for the senior.

The Foresters' next corner kick opportunity came from the right side less than a minute-and-a-half later. This time Hendriksen's cross reached ground level in front of the goal, where sophomore Morgan Henrichs kicked it in to double the home team's lead.

Lake Forest out-shot the Vikings 10-2 in the first half but still held just a two-goal advantage after 45 minutes of play.

The Foresters were able to add to their lead in the 51st minute. Junior Sangjun Hornewer dribble in toward the middle of the field from the left sideline and sent the ball directly toward the far post. The Lawrence goalie stopped it but was unable to hold on and senior Charlotte Jackson kicked it in from point blank range to make the score 3-0. It was the second score of the year for Jackson.

The final goal of the contest was scored less than five minutes later by Henrichs, who jumped higher than the defender to head in another corner kick from Hendriksen. It was the team-high seventh score for Henrichs and fifth assist for Hendriksen this season. Hendriksen also became just the 10th player in program history with at least three assists in a game.

Lake Forest had a 16-1 advantage in shots in the second half and a 26-3 edge in the contest.

Goalkeeping duties were shared by three Foresters with freshman Maggie Kersting making a pair of saves and keeping the Vikings off the scoreboard for the entire first half. She extended her personal scoreless streak to more than 333 minutes. Sophomore Paige Thiel started the second half and gave way to freshman Sandra Greco, who made one save in the final 21:46.

It was the fourth consecutive shutout for the Foresters, who had not blanked four straight opponents since the beginning of the 2003 season. The longest shutout streak in program history was eight games and occurred in 1995.

Lake Forest is now 8-9-0 overall and 4-4-0 in Midwest Conference play this year. Lawrence finished the year 0-18-0 overall and 0-9-0 in the league.

The Foresters will close out the season at St. Norbert College Sunday afternoon at 2:30.
