Lake Forest women's soccer ended its season in the Midwest Conference semifinals with a 1-0 loss to Lawrence.
Lawrence sustained pressure early in the game, forcing
Sara Swenson to make two saves within the first eight minutes. While keeping the pressure up, the Vikings scored the game's first goal in the 10th minute, capitalizing on a scramble in front of the goal after a corner kick.
Maggie Balas looked for an immediate response, but dragged her shot wide of the right post 20 seconds after the opening goal. The Foresters went the rest of the first half without a shot and went into the second half trailing by one.
The second half saw more offensive struggles for Lake Forest, as the Foresters went 20 minutes without a shot to begin the half.
Gianna Logue sent a header over the crossbar in the 66th minute and
Veronica Presberg had her shot saved by the Lawrence goalkeeper in the moments that followed.
Swenson made a key save in the 79th minute, stretching to deny Lawrence a second goal of the match. A late shot by Logue was not enough to test the Vikings goalkeeper, as Lawrence advanced to the Midwest Conference final with a 1-0 victory over the Foresters.
The Foresters finished the season with a record of 14-3-2, graduating seven seniors who combined for 19,210 minutes played in their careers. The group led the Foresters to 59 wins, three MWC championships and two NCAA tournament appearances in the last four years.
