Lake Forest Hosts Meet in Rockford

Sophomore Davis DeKorte tied for seventh place out of 98 golfers and the Lake Forest College Red team tied for eighth out of 17 teams at the Forester Spring Invite on Sunday. The Lake Forest Black team was tied-for-14th.

DeKorte matched his career-best 18-hole score of 75 on the 6,615-yard, par-72 course at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Illinois. He began his round by carding a four on the par-5, 520-yard opening hole and added birdies on the fifth, seventh, and 12th holes.

Freshman Ricky Schmidt also had four birdies in his round of 81, which tied him for 26th place in the field. He and DeKorte needed just 34 shots apiece on the front nine, which tied them with two other players for the event's best score through nine holes.

Sophomore Durham Ghelfi and freshmen Jordan Mandell and Parker Hill made up the rest of the red team. Mendell's 84 was tied-for-46th overall while Ghelfi and Hill tied for 54th with a score of 85. The three players combined for four birdies on the day.

Sophomore Benjamin Crosby recorded a dozen pars and led the black team with a score of 81, tying Schmidt for 26th place overall. Freshman Elijah Collins was next with an 86 and sophomore Jeremy Edelson third in the group with an 88. Freshman Carter Ostrander and sophomore Matthew Weidner finished in 90 and 91 strokes, respectively.

The Foresters also had a pair of golfers playing as individuals, including sophomore Jacob Soyka, whose score of 82 ranked tied-for-36th in the field. Sophomore Matthew Pochowicz used 91 shots to complete his round.

Carroll University won the team competition with a score of 308, one shot better than runner-up Monmouth College. The Forester Red team was tied with Lakeland College with a score of 325 and the Lake Forest Black team matched Knox College's 345.

Seven of the schools competing in the event are Midwest Conference members gaining experience on the course that will host the 2016 MWC Championships April 28-30.

The Foresters will be in action again on Tuesday at the Carthage College Spring Invitational. The event will be played at the Kenosha Country Club in Somers, Wisconsin, and will begin at 9:00 a.m.
