Lake Forest Pulls Away from Illinois College in Second Half

Box Score

The Forester women's soccer team hosted and defeated Illinois College 4-1 on Sunday. Senior forward Michelle Greeneway scored Lake Forest's first and last goals and assisted on the game-winner.

Greeneway received a long through-ball from junior midfielder Katelyn Hronek and put the Foresters on the scoreboard just six minutes and 42 seconds into the contest.

Lake Forest out-shot the visitors 12-2 in the first half but led by just one at the end of the period.

Illinois College converted on a breakaway opportunity three minutes into the second half to tie the score at one. It was the only shot of the half for the Lady Blues while Lake Forest had 13 attempts.

Senior forward Holly Lesperance regained the lead for the Foresters at the 59:01 mark. Greeneway headed a goal kick back toward the Lady Blue goal and Lesperance took it and slipped in past the goalie and into the left side of the goal. It was Lesperance's 12th goal of the season and seventh in the last five days. Lake Forest won three games during that span and Lesperance scored all three game-winning goals.

The home team added to its lead just four minutes later. Sophomore midfielder Kayla Wuest got the ball near the left side of the goal box, sidestepped a pair of defenders, and then deflected the ball off one of them and into the goal for her third goal of the year.

Greeneway finished off the scoring at the 66:19 mark. Senior midfielder Ellen Rogers gained control of a loose ball and tapped it to Greeneway, who snuck it into the far left side of the goal for her 24th goal of the season. It also gave her 98 goals and 228 points in her career, moving her into the top 25 in NCAA Division III history in both categories.

Forester sophomore goalkeeper Kaylee Price made a pair of saves in the game and improved to 5-0-1 in her six appearances.

Lake Forest is now 12-2-2 overall and 7-0-1 in Midwest Conference play this year. Illinois College fell to 4-9-2 overall and 1-5-1 in the league.

The Foresters will be in action again at home next Sunday when the team hosts Lawrence University. The contest will begin at 1:00 p.m.
