Foresters Defeat Carroll 4-1 to Improve to 9-0-0

Box Score

The Lake Forest College women's soccer team continued the best start to a season in program history on Wednesday by defeating Carroll University 4-1 at home. Sophomore Nina Perkkio scored two of the Foresters' four goals in the game.

Perkkio's first goal gave the home team the early lead just nine minutes and five seconds into the contest. A corner kick bounced off a couple of players before junior Ellen Rogers headed the ball to a dangerous area in front of the goal and Perkkio kicked it in from there.

The official game-winning goal was scored by junior Michelle Greeneway at the 18:54 mark. She stole the ball from the Pioneers 35 yards from the goal, took it up the right side of the field, and sent it off a Carroll defender and into the goal for her team-high 12th goal of the season. Greeneway now has four game-winners on the year and extended the program's career record in that category to 14. It was also the 53rd score of her career, one shy of the team record set by Melissa Stevenson in 2005.

A Carroll foul in the box with with 3:29 to play in the opening half set up the Foresters' third goal and sophomore Katelyn Hronek converted the penalty kick opportunity for her first score of the season.

Perkkio made the score 4-0 less than two minutes into the second half. She beat a pair of Pioneer defenders on the left side of the field and kicked the ball over the goalkeeper's head from nearly 25 yards away. It was her third tally of the season and her second career two-goal game.

Carroll finally got on the scoreboard with 10:08 to play in the contest.

Lake Forest sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Tenuta made six saves in the game and improved to 5-0-0 on the year.

The home team outshot the Pioneers 10-4 in the opening period but attempted just three shots to Carroll's 10 after halftime.

The Foresters, ranked 21st in this week's D3soccer.com Top 25 poll, are now 9-0-0 overall this season and 2-0-0 in Midwest Conference play. Carroll fell to 1-5-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the league.

Lake Forest will attempt to match the longest winning streak in program history on Saturday at Lawrence University. The game will begin at 3:30 p.m.
