Lake Forest's Season Ends at MWC Tournament

Box Score

The Forester women's soccer team was defeated 3-2 by Monmouth College in the semifinals of the Midwest Conference Tournament on Friday. The teams combined for four goals in the game's first 25 minutes, beginning with a score by Lake Forest sophomore Holly Lesperance on a breakaway at the 4:40 mark.

It was the 11th goal of the season for Lesperance, who is now tied for 14th place in program history with 63 career points on 26 goals and 11 assists after just two seasons.

Monmouth tied the score eight minutes into the contest.

Forester sophomore Michelle Greeneway, who assisted on Lesperance's goal, gave Lake Forest the lead again at 12:29 when she tapped in the loose ball after the Fighting Scot goalkeeper dropped a shot by sophomore Sam Hillis. The score extended Greeneway's team records for goals and points in a season to 25 and 55, respectively. She now ranks third in school history with 95 career points and 41 goals in just two seasons.

The scots tied the game again, however at 24:52.

Lake Forest had a 14-11 edge in shots in the opening 45 minutes and a 4-3 advantage in a slower-paced second half.

Monmouth finally broke the tie with 9:17 to play in the game.

The Foresters finished the season with a 13-5-1 overall record, matching the fifth-highest victory total in team history. They also tied the program's single-season mark for goals with 58.

The team will lose just two players, Courtney Garth and Becky Esrock, to graduation in May.
