Late Goal Ends Foresters' Season at NCAA Tourney

The Lake Forest College women's soccer team was defeated 2-1 by Concordia College (Moorhead, Minn.), the 14th-ranked team in the nation, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday. Junior Becky Esrock put the Foresters ahead just before halftime but two second-half goals by the Cobbers sent them to the second round.

The goal by Esrock came on a free kick at 43:55. It was her sixth score of the season and 39th goal of her career, the third-highest total in team history. She also took over sole possession of third place in program history with 93 career points.

Concordia tied the score at the 58:55 mark and then netted the game-winner with just 8:22 remaining in the contest.

The Cobbers had a 14-6 advantage in shots during the first half and a 16-1 edge in the second.

Lake Forest senior Bri Schleibinger made six saves in each half and finished the season with 109, the second-highest total in program history. She also ranks second in career saves with 358.

The Midwest Conference champion Foresters finished 2012 with an overall record of 14-6-1, tying the single-season team record for victories. Concordia advances to the second round with a mark of 16-3-2.

In addition to Bri Schleibinger, Lake Forest will also lose seniors Lisa Sorensen and Hailey Schleibinger to graduation in May.
