The Lake Forest College women's soccer team blanked Beloit
College 3-0 at home on Sunday to clinch a berth in the four-team
Midwest Conference Tournament. Senior Bianca Greene assisted on two
of the Foresters' three goals.
The Foresters scored the game's first goal just 77 seconds into
the contest. Sophomore Lisa Sorensen was credited with the score,
her 10th of the season, when her cross caromed into the goal off
the foot of a Beloit defender.
The home team doubled its advantage seven minutes later when
senior Emily Weber headed in classmate Bianca Greene's corner kick.
It was Weber's third goal of the year.
Lake Forest out-shot Beloit 18-2 in the game's first 45 minutes
but did not score again in the opening period.
Forester sophomore Becky Esrock closed out the scoring in the
63rd minute when she headed in a cross from Greene. Esrock's 10th
goal of the season tied her with Sorensen for team-high honors.
Lake Forest sophomore goalkeeper Bri Schleibinger recorded three
saves in the shutout performance, her third of the season and the
eighth of her career.
The Foresters are now 10-6-0 overall and 6-1-0 in conference
play. The team will host Illinois College next Saturday (Parents
Day) and Monmouth College on Sunday (Senior Day). Both contests
will begin at noon and a live video webcast of Sunday's game
will be available at www.pennatlantic.com.
