The Lake Forest College women's soccer team defeated Benedictine
University at home on Wednesday to raise its record on the season
to 8-5-0. Forester sophomore Lisa Sorensen assisted on the team's
first goal and scored the game-winner in the 84th minute.
Sorensen set up senior Bianca Greene with the game's first goal
11 minutes and six seconds into the contest. It was Greene's third
goal and Sorensen's team-high seventh assist of the season.
Junior Mira Trebilcock doubled the home team's lead with 6:02 to
play in the opening period. She received a cross from senior
Christine Sorensen, avoided the Eagle goalkeeper, and kicked in her
first goal of the year. She is the 14th Forester to score this
season and the 19th to record at least one point.
Lake Forest out-shot the visitors 9-2 in the first half before
both teams attempted 10 shots in the second. Benedictine finally
got on the scoreboard in the 62nd minute and then tied the score
with exactly 15 minutes to play.
A long pass from Forester senior Emily Weber perfectly led
sophomore Isabel Brown, who was sprinting down the right side of
the field. She crossed the ball to Lisa Sorensen in front of the
goal for the game-winner. Sorensen's ninth goal of the season tied
sophomore Becky Esrock for the team lead and she passes Esrock for
the squad's lead in points with 25.
Sophomore Bri Schleibinger had two saves in the contest and
earned the victory.
Lake Forest will play its final non-conference game of the
season next Tuesday at Dominican University. The contest is
scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
