Box Score The Lake Forest College women's tennis team traveled to Robert
Morris University on Tuesday (October 13) to close out the 2009
regular season. The Foresters defeated the Eagles 9-0 and are now
10-4-1 on the year.
Lake Forest began the match by sweeping the doubles competition.
Senior Molly
Stapleton (St. Louis Park, Minn./Saint Louis Park) and junior
Natalie
Atroshenko (Wheeling, Ill./Buffalo Grove) posted the most
convining victory, an 8-1 decision at #2. Juniors Lauren
Stroner (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) and Michelle
Stroner (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) won 8-2 at #3 and freshman
Melika
Celebic (Visoko, Bosnia Herzegovina/United World College)
teamed with sophomore Nonie Carson
(Littleton, Colo./Littleton) for an 8-4 triumph at #1.
Half of the Foresters' six singles victories were by a convincing
margin. Stapleton won 6-1, 6-2 at #3 and Lauren Stroner's 6-3, 6-0
win at #5 gave the visitors' their fifth team point to clinch the
victory. Carson followed with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at #2. The other
three matches were much closer, including Atroshenko's 6-3, 0-6,
1-0 (10-4) win at #6. Celebic prevailed 7-5, 6-3 at the top spot in
the lineup and sophomore Allison Hamel (Bend, Ore./Bend) won by the
same score at #4.
Lake Forest, the Midwest Conference South Division's #2 seed, will
face North champion Beloit College in Friday morning's (October 16)
MWC Team Tournament semifinals at Boylan High School in Rockford,
Illinois. The Foresters will then face either Grinnell College or
St. Norbert College in the championship or third-place match. All
10 league teams will then travel to Madison, Wisconsin, for the
positional doubles tournaments on Saturday and the singles
competition on Sunday.
