Softball player Nicole Marceau and track runner Brayden Long were named Forester Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.
Marceau reached base safely via hit or walk in each of her team's Midwest Conference Tournament games over the weekend. Lake Forest's only game on Friday was a 6-4 victory over Ripon College and she doubled and scored a run in the contest. The sophomore designated player tripled in a run before scoring herself during Saturday morning's 3-2 loss to host Illinois College and then walked and scored as the Foresters eliminated Cornell 8-1 early in the afternoon. Marceau also belted her seventh home run of the season for her team's only tally in the championship game loss to Illinois College.
Marceau batted .318 with a team-high 18 extra base hits and .727 slugging percentage this season.
Long earned All-MWC honors three times and was named MWC Newcomer of the Year at the MWC Outdoor Championship Meet at Cornell College last weekend. After helping the Foresters' 4x100m relay team place third in 42.35 seconds, the freshman was the runner-up in the 100m in 10.60 seconds and finished third in the 200m with a time of 21.71 seconds.
All three of Long's times on Saturday were program records and he became the first member of the Forester track and field team to be named all conference in three events since Tom Lewis won the javelin, long jump, and high jump at the 1960 College Conference of Illinois Championships.
Tuesday's Forester Athlete of the Week award was the first for Marceau and second for Long, who also earned the honor on April 21.
