Football player Cole Sorensen and tennis player Sofia Strupovets were named Forester Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.
Sorensen scored his team's first three touchdowns in a 55-21 victory at Illinois College on Saturday. The sophomore tailback reached the end zone from 16 yards out to match the Blueboys first score of the contest and then put the visitors on top with another rushing touchdown, this time a 3-yarder, midway through the first quarter. Sorensen struck again on a 21-yard reception with 12 seconds left in the period to make it a 21-7 game. He also had a 67-yard run in the third quarter and finished the day with 140 rushing yards on just 14 carries.
Sorensen's rushing output on the day was more than twice his previous career high and the receiving touchdown was his first as a Forester.
Strupovets reached the round of 16 in singles and doubles at the ITA Regional Tournament in Kalamazoo, Michigan, over the weekend. After a bye in the roud of 128, Lake Forest's top player rolled 6-4, 6-0 in her first singles match and came back to win 4-6, 6-1, (10-2) in the round of 32. She eventually fell to the #2 seed in the tournament. In doubles she partnered with Lilli Dockal to edge out their round of 32 opponents 8-7 (7-2) after earning a bye in the opening round.
Strupovets, a senior, has now reached the event's round of 16 in singles twice as a Forester. She now ranks sixth in program history with 61 career singles victories and eighth with 63 doubles wins and 124 triumphs overall.
This is the first Forester Athlete of the Week award for Sorensen and sixth for Strupovets.
