Football player Evan Vernon and cross country runner Lettia Hoda were named Forester Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.
Vernon accounted for two of the team's five interceptions during a 57-3 victory over Luther College at home on Saturday. The first occurred at midfield with Lake Forest leading 14-3 early in the second quarter and the second, which he returned 31 yards to the Forester 44, ended the Norse's first drive of the second half. Vernon also made six tackles in the contest from his safety position.
With four interceptions so far this fall, Vernon leads the team and ranks second in the Midwest Conference and tied-for-34th in the nation in interceptions per game. His season stat line also includes a pair of pass breakups, a forced fumble, and a blocked kick and he is third on the team with 32 tackles.
Hoda was the individual champion at the Private College Championships at Beloit College on Saturday. She completed the 6-kilometer course as Leeson Park with a season-best time of 23:15.8 and a 43-second lead over the runner-up in a field of 93 competitors.
Hoda's time on Saturday ranks 23rd in program history and she now has three entries on the team's top 25 list. It also ranks her 12th in the league this season going into the MWC Championships on October 31.
The Forester Athlete of the Week honors are the first for Vernon and fifth for Hoda, who has now been recognized twice as a cross country runner and three times in track and field.
