Soccer player Gustavo Machado and volleyball player Lilly Robinson were named Forester Athletes of the Week on Tuesday after helping their teams earn berths in their respective Midwest Conference Tournaments over the weekend.
Machado had a goal and an assist as Lake Forest prevailed 3-2 at Ripon College on Saturday. After setting up the game's first goal just eight minutes and four seconds into the contest, he scored to double the visitors' lead at the 25:56 mark. Ripon came back and tied the score but Lake Forest netted the game-winner with three-and-a-half minutes remaining.
In addition to clinching a spot for the Foresters in the MWC Tournament, Saturday's victory also assured that Lake Forest would be a top-four seed, meaning they would either play at home or have a bye in next Tuesday's quarterfinal round.
Machado, a sophomore midfielder, leads the team with eight goals and 21 points so far this season.
Robinson racked up 33 assists as Lake Forest hosted and defeated Luther College in five sets Friday night to secure her team's spot in the conference tournament for the first time since 2023. The fifth-year setter also reached double figures with 11 digs and added seven kills, two aces, and two blocks in the contest.
The Foresters played another five-set match on Saturday but fell to defending league champion Cornell College. Robinson tallied 40 assists, recorded 10 digs, served up three aces, and chipped in with two kills and a block on the afternoon.
Robinson, who recently reached 2,000 career assists, leads the conference with 8.17 assists per set and 44 aces on the year.
The Forester Athlete of the Week honors are the second for Machado and Robinson as both players were also recognized once in 2025.
