Lake Forest College men's soccer players
Ollie Francis and
Peter Cirbo were named Midwest Conference Defensive and Offensive Performer of the Week, respectively, on Monday.
Cirbo assisted on one goal and converted a penalty kick opportunity for another in the second half of Wednesday's 4-1 victory over Elmhurst University. Earlier in the game, Francis sent a cross into the penalty box and the Bluejay defender's attempt to clear it resulted in an own-goal and an early lead for the Foresters.
Francis was responsible for the only tally in a 1-0 triumph at Illinois Wesleyan University, the eighth-ranked team in its region, on Saturday. It came in the 34th minute shortly after one shot from Cirbo was saved, creating a corner kick opportunity, and another attempt helped set up the score.
The victories were the sixth and seventh in a row for Lake Forest, matching the 2011 team for the second-longest season-opening winning streak in program history.
Cirbo, a junior forward, is tied for first in the Midwest Conference with five goals and 13 points and third with three assists so far this season. Francis, a junior defender, has two goals and an assist on the year.
MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's sports information directors. Cirbo has now earned the honor twice this season and three times in his career.
