Foresters Finish Fifth out of 45 Teams at Midwest Region Fall Classic

9/20/2025 9:06:00 PM

The Lake Forest College golf team posted the fifth-best score in the 45-team field in Friday's opening round of the Midwest Region Fall Classic. Since lightning halted play in the middle of Saturday's second round, Friday's results became official.

A second group of Foresters placed 32nd but that squad actually had the team's highest-placing individual in freshman Jack Lee. After beginning play on Friday with a par on 15, he rattled off three consecutive birdies and added one more later while posting a round of 1-under 71. Just five of the 246 players in the event were better.

Lake Forest's top team was led by junior Tyler Wengronowitz, who was tied-for-27th overall with a 1-over 73 that included three birdies. Junior Tyler Schick and sophomore Tyler Poker were next on the team at 74 and tied-for-35th in the field. Schick was 1-under after 10 holes and Poker even after nine when play ended on Saturday.

Senior Ben Shamberg had an eagle on the 340-yard, par-4 14th hole on Friday and finished just a shot behind Schick and Poker and tied-for-49th in the tournament. Sophomore Nate Choi tied for 91st place with a 78.

Nebraska Wesleyan University was the team champion with a final score of 282 (-6), which was 10 shots better than runner-up Augustana College. The Foresters' 296 was their best round so far this season and left them just one shot behind fourth-place University of Northwestern-St. Paul and two away from third-place DePauw University.

Lake Forest will compete in The Grand Collegiate next Sunday and Monday. The event will be hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stout at Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
