Lake Forest Begins 2025-26 at Aurora Double Gun

The Forester men' golf team opened the season with two rounds in one day at the Aurora Double Gun on Tuesday. Accounting for two of the 19 teams at the event, Lake Forest placed seventh and 15th.

Sophomore Nate Choi was the team's top player and finished tied-for-ninth in the field of 104 golfers. After carding a 77 on his first trip around the course, he turned in a career-low score of 70 (-2) on the second. Choi was seven shots over par before recording five birdies with just one bogey in his final 21 holes. Just four players had more than his 23 pars on the day.

Fellow sophomore Tyler Poker was the team's top player in round one with a 3-over 75 and junior Tyler Wengronowitz was just one shot behind him. Junior Tyler Schick's 79 also contributed to the team's opening round score and he was six shots better in round two. Schick tied for 25th overall at 152 while Wengronowitz tied for 42nd with a 156 and Poker was tied-for-46th at 157. Senior Ben Shamberg posted a 77 in round two and tied for 54th overall at 158.

Freshman Jack Lee led the Foresters' second team and matched Poker with a final score of 157. Sophomroe Brady Green was just two shots behind him and tied-for-64th.

Aurora won the event with a team score of 573, which was 15 shots better than runner-up University of Wisconsin-Stout. The Foresters' 607 was good for seventh place, three shots behind Trine University and three ahead of Calvin University. At 651, Lake Forest's other team was 15th between the second groups from Wheaton College and Elmhurst University.

The next tournament on the Foresters' schedule is the Minnesota Golf Classic on Saturday and Sunday. The event will be hosted by Bethel University at Pioneer Creek Golf Course in Maple Plain, Minnesota.
