The Forester men's golf team competed in the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Invitational on Sunday and Monday and tied for 14th place.
With a score of 324, Lake Forest improved by four shots from rounds one to two and the team's final score of 620 was just nine strokes away from climbing into the top 10 at the 22-team event. Illinois Wesleyan University finished first in the team standings at 585.
Junior Tyler Wengronowith placed Sunday's opening round at even par (71) and he tied for 13th place out of 119 players with a final score of 149. His first round included four birdies on the 6,855-yard par-71 Eau Claire Golf and Country Club course, which is located in Altoona, Wisconsin.
The Foresters' best score on Monday was turned in by senior
Ben Shamberg, who carded a 75 that featured four birdies, including three in a four-hole stretch to close out the front nine. He tied for 49th with a two-day score of 155, which put him one shot and nine places ahead of sophomore
Tyler Schick. Schick had three birdies on Monday and four for the tournament.
Rounding out the Lake Forest lineup were sophomores
Tyler Poker and
Nate Choi, who posted final scores of 160 and 161, respectively.
Lake Forest will continue the fall portion of the 2025-26 schedule at the Midwest Region Classic on Friday and Saturday. The event will be hosted by Benedictine University at Brighton Dale Links in Kansasville, Wisconsin.
