The Lake Forest College cross country teams competed in the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional in Waverly, Iowa, on Saturday. The Forester women were 20th in the standings and the men 24th.
The men's race was first and Lake Forest was led by sophomore
Owen Lashenik, who completed the 8-kilometer route at Max Cross Country Course in 27:50.7. Classmate
Demos Manoukis was next on the team with a time of 28:19.0 and senior
Ali Faiz finished in a career-best 28:33.6. Junior
Austin Hewes (28:47.7) and freshman
Oliver Gumerson (29:30.6) rounded out the team's top five.
Meet host Wartburg College won the men's competition with 30 points and the University of Chicago was the runner-up with 87.
The Foresters' top performance of the day was turned in by junior
Lettia Hoda in the women's 6K, which she finished in 23:36.3. That was good for 44th place in the field of 219 runners. Fellow junior
Sophie Graham was next on tne team and 86th overall at 24:20.1. Sophomore Liya N'Daye (26:24), senior
Megan Dodrill (28:03.1), and sophomore
Stella Abernethy (28:27.2) completed Lake Forest's top five.
With 42 points, Chicago edged out Washington University in St. Louis by six to win the meet.
Saturday's event wa the last of the year for Lake Forest.
