The Lake Forest College handball team competed at the Illinois Handball Association State Singles Tournament in Schaumburg over the weekend.
Four Foresters reached the semifinals in their respective brackets, including junior
Arielle Augustyn, the runner-up in the Women's B Division. She rolled 21-2, 21-1 in the quarterfinals before coming out on top of a narrow 21-16, 21-0 decision in the semifinals.
Two of the four semifinalists in the Women's Open were from Lake Forest. Sophomore
Emma Kinane won a tiebreaker in the quarterfinals before falling to the top seed while freshman
Jodie Keeling was eventually eliminated by the eventual champion in a tiebreaker during the semifinal round.
On the men's side, senior
Zach Dybal defeated the #3 seed 12-21, 21-15, 11-3 to reach the semifinals of the Men's A Division.Â
Fellow senior
Dylan Schmitt posted a pair of victories in the Men's Open. He prevailed 20-21, 21-19, 11-5 in the round of 16 before falling to the eventual runner-up in the quarterfinals.
FreshmanÂ
Luca Zenati-Parsons earned the first victory of his career, a 21-12, 21-2 final in the Men's C Division round of 16.
The Foresters will continue their season at the Maverick Open at Minnesota State University Mankato neext weekend.
