Lake Forest Finishes in Top Half at Illinois Wesleyan Invitational

The Forester men's golf team tied for 16th place at the 37-team Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Lake Forest's final score of 609 matched the 10th-best 36-hole total in team history. The team was 23 shots over par with a 307 on Weibring Golf Course on Friday before posting a 14-over 302 at Ironwood Golf Course on Saturday.

Sophomore Ben Shamberg was one of three Foresters with a 76 in round one and his team-best 73 on day two lifted him into a tie for 25th place out of 214 players in the tournament. He birdied a pair of holes in both of his rounds on the weekend.

Lake Forest Tyler Schick and junior Chris Petri matched Shamberg on Friday and carded scores of 75 and 76, respectively, on Saturday. Schick had 15 pars and Petri three birdies in round two. They tied for 39th and 44th in the field.

Junior Luke Duffer also scored for the Foresters with a 79 in the opening round and a 78 on day two.

Illinois Wesleyan won the event by 24 strokes with a two-day total of 568.

Lake Forest will host the annual Forester Spring Invitational at White Deer Run Golf Course on Friday with a shotgun start at noon.
