Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Four Titles, Four Runner-Up Finishes for Foresters at MWC Individual Tournaments

The Lake Forest College women's tennis team competed at the MWC Individual Tournaments in Madison, Wisconsin, over the weekend. Members of the team captured four titles and reached the final at eight of nine spots in the lineup.

The Foresters were undefeated on Saturday, reaching the finals at all six singles positions and the semifinals in all three doubles brackets.

Sophomore Sofia Strupovets and freshman Lilli Dockal were the top seeds at #1 and #2 singles, respectively, and validated those rankings with victories in Sunday's finals. Strupovets prevailed 7-5, 6-1 while Dockal rolled 6-0, 6-2.

Lake Forest's other singles championship was less expected. Sophomore Anika Kinnear was seeded third at #5 singles and needed a three-set victory Saturday evening just to reach the final. Sunday's final also went three sets and she came out on top in dramatic fashion 6-4, 0-6, 7-6 (7-4).

Runner-up finishes were turned in at the other three spots in the singles lineup with fifth-year Margaret Bugnacki competing at #3, sophomore Kate Feist at #4, and sophomore Olivia Pandazi at #6. Bugnacki and Pandazi each won the first set in the finals before falling in the last two.

Strupovets and Dockal were also the top seed at #1 doubles and they defeated the top duo from Monmouth College 8-3 in Sunday's semifinals and doubled up the best from Grinnell College 8-4 in the final. They became the first Foresters to claim conference titles in singles and doubles at the same tournament since 2018.

Bugnacki and Feist won 8-2 in the semifinals at #2 before being defeated in the final. Kinnear and senior Emily Bross were eliminated in the semifinals at #3.

The tournament was Lake Forest's final competition of the fall semester. The Foresters will resume the 2024-25 season in February.
