Members of the Lake Forest College handball team competed in the Illinois Handball Association State Singles Tournament over the weekend.
Forester sophomore
Arielle Augustyn was perfect in the Women's B bracket, posting three victories by a combined score of 126-30. Freshman
Miley Ashby was 1-2 in the same division.
Lake Forest had a pair of finalists in freshman
Emma Kinane and junior
Zach Dybal. Playing in the Women's Open Division, Kinane rolled 21-1, 21-0 in the quarterfinals and edged out her semifinal opponent 21-19, 21-13. She was defeated 21-11, 21-18 in the final by Megan Dorneker, a 2004 graduate of the College and member of the Forester Athletic Hall of Fame. Dybal competed in the Men's A bracket and needed a tiebreaker to decide all three of his matches.
Forester junior
Dylan Schmitt won twice to reach the Men's Open quarterfinals, where he was eliminated by the eventual champion.Senior
Josh Levin also collected a victory in the Men's C/Novice Division, where he was a semifinalist.
It was the first event of 2024 for the Foresters, who will host a Doubles Invitational on Saturday, January 27.
