Foresters Post School Record Score in Season's First Tournament

9/2/2023 4:31:00 PM

The Lake Forest College men's golf team was the runner-up at Friday and Saturday's Culver's Edgewood College Fall Classic with the best 36-hole score in school history by 14 strokes.

The Foresters' 295 on Friday was the program's third-lowest round but was bumped down to fourth by Saturday's 291. Day two's total was just two shots off the 18-hole record but the weekend score of 586 shattered the previous 36-hole mark of 600, which was set last April.

Updates to Lake Forest's individual record book are also necessary after freshman Ben Shamberg's 68 on Saturday matched the lowest round in team history. The tournament's runner-up carded five birdies on the day and eight over the course of the weekend. He finished just one shot off the lead with a 141, the program's second-best two-round total.

Junior Max Golding was not far behind, tying for 14th in the 100-player field with a 146, which matched the fifth-best score in school history. Golding followed up Friday's 72 with a 74 and had six birdies on the weekend.

Forester freshman Tyler Schick and junior Chris Petri also placed in the top 30 with scores of 149 and 150, respectively. Schick's best round was Friday's 72 and Petri matched that total on Saturday.

The University of Wisconsin-Stout was the team champion with a score of 578. The Foresters edged out St. Olaf College by one stroke for second and five additional teams broke 600 on the 6,849-yard, par-71 course at Glen Erin Golf Course in Janesville, Wisconsin.

Lake Forest will be back in action on Tuesday at Aurora University's Spartan Double Gun. The one-day event includes two back-to-back rounds beginning at 8:00 a.m.
