10/2/2023 7:44:00 PM

The Lake Forest College men's golf team finished up the fall portion of its schedule at the UW-Stout Invitational on Sunday and Monday, placing seventh at the 22-team event.

Junior Luke Duffer led the Foresters with an even-par 71 on Monday and placed 11th out of 120 players in the tournament with a 5-over 147 overall. His second round was the best of his collegiate career and featured three birdies.

Sophomore Ben Shamberg was next on the team and tied-for-17th overall at 150 while junior Chris Petri tied for 35th place with a final score of 155. Both players turned in four birdies on Monday.

Freshman Tyler Schick's 75 on Sunday and a 77 from senior Ryan Higgins on Monday also contributed to Lake Forest's team score for the tournament. The Foresters improved by six strokes from day one to day two and Monday's 299 was the team's seventh sub-300 score in 13 rounds this fall. They had accomplished that feat just six times prior to this season.

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire won the event with a 36-hole score of 571 and finished 23 shots ahead of runner-up Luther College. At 604, the Foresters were within 10 strokes of the other four teams ahead of them in the standings.

The next event on Lake Forest's 2023-24 schedule is Knox College's Jim Wetherbee Memorial Invitational on the final two days of March.
