Another Split for Foresters on Day Two in Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Senior Riley Frisbie had five base hits on the day and junior Erin Karasewski belted her first career home run Tuesday as Lake Forest fell 8-7 to Lakeland University before doubling up Ohio Wesleyan University 8-4 in Clermont, Florida.

Frisbie was 3-for-4 at the plate in the Foresters' first game of the day. She singled in the team's third run in the top of the first inning and was one of two baserunners when Karasewski cleared the center field fence in the sixth. The three-run blast pulled the Foresters to within a run of the Muskies but they were unable to tie the score.

Karasewski also scored on a double by sophomore Josie Klein in the fourth. Lake Forest's other two runs in the first came home on a double by junior Hannah Kalnicky and a base hit by freshman Abby Ponder.

Lakeland scored a run in the bottom of the second and took the lead with three in the third. After Klein's double tied the game, the Muskies plated three more in the fourth and scored what proved to be a valuable insurance run in the fifth.

Lake Forest fell behind against Ohio Wesleyan allowing a pair of runs in the top of the first. A five-run rally in the bottom of the frame, however, put the Foresters on top for good. Kalnicky and Frisbie had RBI-doubles and freshman Melissa Manzo followed with a run-scoring single. Manzo and Frisbie worked a double steal for the fourth tally and Manzo eventually came home on a single by Ponder.

Junior Nicole Schussler singled in a run in the second inning and a sacrifice fly by junior Shaye Gauthier in the bottom of the third matched Ohio Wesleyan's run in the top of the inning.

The Battling Bishops got one more in the fourth and a groundout by Kalnicky scored the final run of the contest in the bottom of the fifth.

Forester senior Haylee Sherlund had three hits in the game while Gauthier, Kalnicky, Frisbie, and Ponder added two apiece.

Senior pitcher Missy Dieckman-Meyer allowed four runs in as many innings but still earned the victory. Gauthier blanked Ohio Wesleyan on just one hit over the final three innings to earn her first career save.

Lake Forest is now 6-4 on the season. Lakeland improved to 2-3 while Ohio Wesleyan fell to 1-3.

After a day off on Wednesday, the Foresters will take on Ithaca College Thursday afternoon at 4:15 (ET) and Wheaton College afterwards at 6:30.
