Foresters Add Two More 7-2 Victories

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Freshman Tyranny Miller went 4-0 on the day as the Lake Forest College women's tennis team hosted and defeated Concordia University Wisconsin and Carthage College by the same 7-2 score on Sunday.

Miller and junior Allison Watts finished off a sweep of doubles in the Foresters' match against Concordia Wisconsin, posting an 8-3 triumph at #2. Freshman Julie Lord and sophomore Leeza Bodnar had blanked the Falcons' top tandem 8-0 and Freshmen Emma Wang and Grace Gould followed with an 8-2 win at #3.

Wang was the first to finish in singles, surrendering just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #4. Watts then clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win at #2 and, after Concordia Wisconsin earned the point at #3, Lord came out on top of a 2-6, 6-4, (11-9) victory against the Falcons' best player. Miller prevailed 6-2, 6-1 at #6 for the Foresters' final point of the contest.

Lake Forest also went 3-0 in doubles in the team's first victory over Carthage since 1995, snapping a 13-match losing streak against the Lady Reds. The Foresters' lineup was the same with Watts and Miller doubling up their opponents 8-4, Wang and Gould winning 8-2, and Lord and Bodnar edging out their counterparts 9-8 (7-5).

Wang finished off her perfect 4-0 day with a 6-2, 6-3 win in singles and Bodnar's 6-2, 6-0 victory was the clincher for the home team. After Carthage earned points at the top two spots in the lineup, Lake Forest took shortened match-ups at the bottom with Gould prevailing 8-3 and Miller 8-3 (7-3).

The Foresters have now won each of their last five matches by the same 7-2 score and are 22-2 on the year. Concordia Wisconsin also dropped a 6-3 decision to Carthage to fall to 17-5. Carthage is now 14-6.

Lake Forest will be the #2 seed in Thursday's Midwest Conference Tournament and will face Cornell College in the semifinals at 11:30 a.m. The semifinal winners will play that afternoon for the tourney title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
