Foresters Win Twice, Improve to 6-2 on the Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Sophomore designated player Riley Frisbie belted the Lake Forest College softball team's first home run of the season in a 15-0 victory over Delaware Valley University Tuesday morning. The Foresters also defeated St. Mary's College 3-1 and are now 3-1 during their Spring Break trip to Florida.

Frisbie cleared the centerfield fence in the bottom of the first inning. Junior centerfielder Maria Zepeda led off the frame with a triple and came home on Frisbie's eighth career round-tripper. Junior rightfielder Abby King and freshman second baseman Hannah Kalnicky followed with back-to-back singles and, three batters later, King came home on a double by freshman first baseman Shaye Gauthier.

Zepeda and Kalnicky each doubled in a run and sophomore catcher Sydney Wyatt tripled in a pair in the second. Wyatt and senior shortstop Kat Beall then came home on a groundout by Gauthier to finish off the six-run rally.

Lake Forest added five more runs in the bottom of the third. A ground ball off the bat of freshman catcher Nicole Schussler brought home the first and sophomore second baseman Quinn Jagodzinski drove in two more with a single. Schussler also scored from first on the play when the ball got away from the Aggies' catcher. Sophomore rightfielder McKenzie Jordan added an RBI-double, making the score 14-0.

Sophomore third baseman Haylee Sherlund became the 12th Forester with a base hit in the game when she singled in the final run of the game in the bottom of the fourth.

While the offense was setting season-highs for runs and hits (14), freshman Maddie Webb became the third pitcher on the team to toss a shutout this year. She allowed just one base hit and struck out six batters without issuing a walk while evening her record on the season at 1-1.

Runs were far more difficult to come by in Lake Forest's second game of the day. The Foresters scored the first run of the contest in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly by King. Gardner led off the frame with a single, stole second, and advanced to third on a base hit by Frisbie before King's fly to center.

Gardner was also an integral part of the team's two runs in the fourth. After reaching on an error, she took second as part of a double steal that scored Beall from third. Zepeda then singled her in to make the score 3-0.

A solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning was all sophomore pitcher Missy Dieckman-Meyer allowed in four-and-a-third innings of work. She struck out seven and scattered six hits in her fourth victory without a loss this year. Junior Kyra Lenzi got the final eight outs to earn her second save of the season.

The Foresters are now 6-2 this year while Delaware Valley fell to 4-3 and St. Mary's to 9-1.

After a day off from games, Lake Forest will continue play at The Spring Games by taking on Keene State College Thursday morning at 8:00 (EST) and Hamilton College at noon.
