Foresters Score Important Victory at Carroll

The Lake Forest College women's tennis team posted a 7-2 victory at Carroll University on Wednesday in a battle between teams who entered the match with just one Midwest Conference loss. Forester freshman Allison Watts and Billie Rodman erased a 6-1 deficit in their triumph at #2 doubles.

The Foresters already had a 1-0 lead after seniors Christi Valicenti and Grace Dowling defeated the top doubles team from Carroll 8-5. The Pioneers led 6-1 at each of the other two doubles matches but Lake Forest posted a pair of 9-8 comeback victories. Rodman and Watts won their tiebreaker 9-7 while junior Zoe Maurer and freshman Tricia Paterakos took theirs 8-6.

Watts was the first to finish off a victory in singles, topping Carroll's #4 player 6-3, 6-0. Rodman then took both sets 6-3 at the top spot in the lineup to clinch the team's win. Dowling added a 6-3, 6-2 victory at #3 and Valicenti edged out her opponent 1-6, 6-3, (11-9). The Pioneers prevailed at #5 and #6.

Lake Forest is now 9-1 overall and 7-1 in MWC play this season. Carroll fell to 9-3 overall and 5-2 in the league.

The Foresters' next event will be the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships in Kalamazoo, Michigan, October 2-5.
