Box Score The Lake Forest College women's tennis team posted a 5-3 victory
at Beloit College on Wednesday (September 23). The Foresters are
now 6-2 on the season while the Buccaneers fell to 9-3.
The Foresters won two of the three doubles matches. Senior Molly
Stapleton (St. Louis Park, Minn./Saint Louis Park) and junior
Natalie
Atroshenko (Wheeling, Ill./Buffalo Grove) trailed 6-1 before
edging out their opponents 9-7 at #2. Junior Lauren
Stroner (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) and sophomore Sara Bennett
(Sioux City, Iowa/Sioux City North) prevailed by the same score at
#3.
Stapleton, Atroshenko, and sophomore Allison Hamel (Bend,
Ore./Bend) won their singles matches. Hamel registered a 7-5, 6-3
victory at #4 and Atroshenko triumphed 6-3, 6-4 at #6. The contest
ended when the Foresters earned their fifth team point on
Stapleton's 6-0, 7-7 (7-5) victory at #3. Stroner fell 6-4 in the
first set at #5 before winning by the same score in the second. The
match went unfinished due to darkness and because the Lake Forest
victory had already been clinched.
The Foresters will begin Midwest Conference South Division play at
defending conference champion Grinnell College on Saturday
(September 26). Lake Forest is scheduled to take on the hosts at
9:30 a.m. and Illinois College at 12:30 p.m.
