The Lake Forest College women's hockey team defeated visiting
UW-Stevens Point 6-1 on Saturday (December 5). The Foresters raised
their overall record on the year to 8-0-1 and Northern Collegiate
Hockey Association mark to 4-0-1. The team's 9-game unbeaten streak
matches the 2005-06 squad for the longest in program history. The
Pointers fell to 7-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the league.
Lake Forest scored the only goal of the opening period on freshman
Rosy Fujimoto's (Wasilla, Alaska/Team Alaska) third goal of the
season. She was assisted by junior Melissa Kravich (Wilmette,
Ill./Gustavus Adolphus College) at 13:32. The Foresters out-shot
their guests 11-4 in the period.
The home team broke the game open in the second. Sophomore Kim Herring (Dover, N.H./Groton School) started the scoring barrage at
1:33 with senior Jamie Sauer (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines
H.S.) and junior Lynn Switaj (Avon Lake, Ohio/Ohio Flames) each
credited with an assist. Switaj then assisted Herring again at
11:20 and helped set up Kravich's sixth score of the year just 22
seconds later. Sophomore Molly Wallner (Chatham, Ill./Chicago Young
Americans) also assisted on Kravich's power play goal. Herring
completed her second hat trick of the season and third of her
career at 15:08. The Foresters put 19 shots on goal against a pair
of goaltenders in the period while facing 10 shots on goal from the
Pointers.
Sauer and junior Sam Herron (Clinton Township, Mich./Victory Honda)
each earned an assist on Herring's final goal of the second period
and then assisted sophomore Jessica Dare (Whitmore Lake,
Mich./Belle Tire) on the Foresters' only score of the third. Her
seventh of the year was scored on the power play at 17:30. Stevens
Point finally got on the scoreboard with just nine seconds left in
the contest. The home team held a 14-10 advantage in shots on goal
in the final period.
Junior goaltender Alyssa Wintermute (Belmont, Ontario/St. Thomas
Panthers) turned away the first 23 shots she faced, raising her
record on the year to 5-0-1 and save percentage to .931.
Switaj and Sauer each set career-highs with three assists in the
game.
