Box Score The Lake Forest College women's tennis team swept all nine
matches against visiting Knox College Friday night (October 2). The
Foresters are now 8-3 overall this season and 2-1 in Midwest
Conference South Division play. The Prairie Fire fell to 2-8
overall and 2-2 in the league.
The match was originally scheduled for the following morning but
was moved up and indoors to the College Park Athletic Club due to
impending rain showers expected in the Lake Forest area
tomorrow.
The Foresters won all three doubles matches to begin the contest.
Freshman Melika
Celebic (Visoko, Bosnia Herzegovina/United World College) and
sophomore Nonie Carson
(Littleton, Colo./Littleton) prevailed 8-3 at #1, senior Molly
Stapleton (St. Louis Park, Minn./Saint Louis Park) and junior
Natalie
Atroshenko (Wheeling, Ill./Buffalo Grove) won 8-1 at #2, and
junior Lauren
Stroner (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) teamed with sophomore Sara
Bennett (Sioux City, Iowa/Sioux City North) for an 8-4 triumph
at #3.
Stapleton was the first to finish her singles match after posting a
6-2, 6-0 victory at #3. She became the program's career leader in
victories at #3 singles with 18. The home team's fifth team point
came from Carson, who defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-3. Celebic
matched Carson's score at the top spot in the singles lineup and
sophomore Allison Hamel (Bend, Ore./Bend) won 6-2, 6-3 at #4.
Stroner lost just one first-set game at #5 and Atroshenko dropped
only one game in the second set at #6.
Lake Forest was scheduled to host Knox and St. Norbert College on
Saturday (October 3) but will now host just St. Norbert at 3:00
p.m. If is rains as the forecast predicts, the Foresters and Green
Knights will play indoors at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff at 1:30
p.m.
