A
Tommy Sasfai strike pulled Lake Forest College men's soccer level with Illinois College as the two teams played out to a draw in the Midwest Conference.Â
The two teams were physical in the first half of play. The Blueboys committed nine fouls in the first half, compared to two for the Foresters. Lake Forest had its best chance of the half with
Rocky Rabago, who met a cross in with a header towards the net.
Andrew Swacha made two saves for the Foresters in the first 45 minutes, but the game was tied 0-0 at halftime.
Lake Forest came out of the break with early pressure, as
Gustavo Machado and
Nathan Kostovetsky forced the Illinois College goalkeeper to make saves early on. However, the first goal of the game belonged to the visitors, as a header in the 64th minute went over the outstretched arms of
Marceli Okonski and into the net for the Blueboys.
The Foresters stepped up the pressure after the goal, and in the 79th minute
Sam Satisky's long throw eventually found its way to
Tommy Sasfai, who powered a shot into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1. After the junior's first collegiate goal, Illinois College responded with immediate pressure. Okonski made two saves in the 81st minute to keep the game tied. Although the final minutes saw two Lake Forest shots, the game finished level, meaning both squads remained unbeaten in Midwest Conference play.
Next up for the Foresters is a trip to new Midwest Conference opponents Luther on Oct. 3. Lake Forest returns home to host Monmouth on Oct. 6 at Mohr Field.
