The Forester women's tennis team dropped the doubles point before coming back and prevailing 5-2 over Cornell College on Saturday in the first Midwest Conference match of the season for both programs.
The Rams had already posted victories at #1 and #3 doubles when Lake Forest's
Anya Mookencherry and
Bebe Phramthong finally finished off a 7-6 (8-6) triumph at #2.
The Foresters rallied in singles, tying the match when
Lilli Dockal prevailed without dropping a game at #2 an taking the lead on Mookencherry's 6-3, 6-4 win at #3.
Three sets were needed to decide the other four match-ups, beginning with Phramthong's 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory at #4. After Cornell earned the point at #1,
Avelynn Wen clinched the match for the Foresters when she outlasted her opponent 4-6, 7-6 (11-9), 6-4 at #5.
Kate Feist then closed out the contest by coming back to defeat her counterpart at #6 singles 1-6, 7-5, 6-2.
The victory evened Lake Forest's overall record at 1-1 while Cornell fell to 4-2.
The Foresters will host another MWC match against Grinnell College Sunday morning at 10:00.
