The Forester women's soccer team started off the season on the right foot, taking down the Milwaukee School of Engineering by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday.
The two offenses started the season quickly, with both teams scoring in the first 15 minutes of the game.
Keighan Whitlock opened the scoring in the ninth minute for Lake Forest, capitalizing on a defensive turnover for MSOE. The Raiders quickly responded, scoring a goal of their own three minutes later to tie the score, and kept pressure high in the following minutes. Forester freshman goalkeeper
Sara Swenson made her first collegiate save, facing seven shots in the first half.
The Foresters gained momentum again in the first half, earning a penalty kick in the 27th minute. However, midfielder
Annabelle Schroeder was denied from the spot, keeping the game level at 1.
Lake Forest got its lead in the 41st minute, with
Veronica Presberg slamming home a cross from
Maggie Balas to send the game to halftime with the Foresters leading 2-1. That same duo would strike again in the second half, this time off of a corner from Balas that found the right foot of Presberg to give the home team a 3-1 lead in the 48th minute.

Maddie Geasey also made her collegiate debut, facing two shots with none on target from the Raiders. The Foresters have taken three straight wins in matches against MSOE, but still trail the all-time series, 8-10-1.
The Foresters continue to build on an impressive home field advantage over the past few seasons, with an 11-1 mark last season and 9-2 record the season prior.
Lake Forest hits the road for the next couple of games, traveling to Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday and Benedictine on Tuesday before returning home to face Concordia University Chicago on Thursday, September 10th.
