The Lake Forest College men's tennis team hosted and defeated Monmouth College and Illinois College by the same 7-0 score at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff on Saturday.
The Foresters swept Monmouth in the morning without dropping a game in any of the nine matches. Sophomore
Felipe Moraes and junior
Rodrigo Cunha played at #1 doubles, junior
Bernardo Aguiar and senior
George Ciuca at #2, and senior
Ian Villardi and junior
Daniel Fotiev at #3.
Ciuca played atop the singles lineup and was followed, in position order, by Cunha, freshman
Zeke Bisharat, sophomore
Joao Espindola, freshman
Tim Pasea, and junior
Felipe Vazsonyi.
In the afternoon match against Illinois College, Vazsonyi and Fotiev teamed up for a 6-1 victory at #3 doubles and Aguiar and Ciuca prevailed by the same score at #2. The Blueboys battled back from a 5-2 deficit at #1 but Moraes and Cunha came out on top 6-4.
Bisharat did not lose a game at #4 and was the first to finish in singles. Ciuca completed his 4-0 day with a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at #3, Mora rolled 6-0, 6-1 at #1, and Aguiar posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory at #2. The final two matches out on the courts were Pasea's 6-0, 6-0 sweep at #5 and a 6-1, 6-2 triumph for Vazsonyi at #6.
The matches were the Midwest Conference openers for all three teams. Lake Forest improved to 11-5 overall while Monmouth fell to 1-7 and Illinois College to 8-6.
The Foresters will continue league play at home next Saturday when they host Ripon College at 9:00 in the morning and Lawrence University at 3:00 p.m.
